Commvault HyperScale X is the next generation of Commvault’s HyperScale family of scale-out data protection solutions, replacing earlier models from a go-tomarket standpoint.
Where the first generation of HyperScale appliances leveraged Red Hat Gluster FS scale-out software-defined file storage, the HyperScale X models leverage Commvault’s Hedvig software-defined storage, acquired in September 2019.
HyperScale X is available as a family of hardware appliances using Commvault-branded server nodes (manufactured by Fujitsu) or as a software-only solution deployed on server nodes from one of several OEM partners. It is also available pre-integrated on Hitachi Advanced Server HA820 servers from Hitachi Vantara, as well as with Hitachi’s Ops Center Protector in the Commvault HyperScale X for Hitachi Data Protection Suite offering.
HyperScale X integrates with Metallic, the division of Commvault that offers data protection as a cloud-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) offering. HyperScale X appliances can serve as an on-premises backup target for Metallic. Additionally, HyperScale X can back data up to Metallic Cloud Storage Service, a Microsoft Azure-based public cloud storage target.
