The HPE 3PAR StoreServ 7000 line is a scale-out storage system targeted at mid-tier enterprises based upon HPE’s 3PAR architecture. The 7000 line has models that differ in hardware configuration and in the number of controllers supported. There is also an all solid-state system, which is covered in separate ESR documents. All models utilize modular architecture, standard racks and enclosures and both systems support 2.5” SFF and 3.5” LFF device enclosures.
All models run HPE 3PAR’s InForm operating system and support additional add-on software modules. The HPE 3PAR StoreServ 7000 systems compete against EMC VNX, NetApp FAS, IBM V7000, Hitachi HUS, Dell Compellent and other leading midrange systems. The all solid-state HP 3PAR StoreServ 7000 systems compete against IBM FlashSystem, EMC XtremIO, Violin Systems, and a number of other vendors with all solid-state systems.
The HPE 3PAR StoreServ 7000 systems are mid-range storage systems that originated from the acquisition of 3PAR technology in 2010. The 7200c and 7400c storage systems support block storage access over FC, iSCSI, and FCoE and file storage access using CIFS/SMB and NFS. Object storage access mapped to files is supported using an Object API.
The HPE 3PAR model 7200c supports two controllers, and the 3PAR model 7400c supports two or four controllers. The 7200c controllers are housed in a 2U enclosure that includes 24 SFF disk drives. The 7400c and 7440c support a total of four controllers in two, 2U enclosures each with up to 24 SFF disks. Additional 2U or 4U expansion trays are available that support 2.5” and 3.5” disks respectively.
The HPE 3PAR 7440c model may have two or four controllers and is targeted as an all flash array that includes HDDs that can be used for storage of less active data.
