The IBM FlashSystem A9000 and A9000R solid-state storage systems use the custom designed FlashSystem 900 with grid controllers that execute the Spectrum Accelerate software. The A9000 contains three grid controllers with one FlashSystem 900. The A9000R is a scalable system and comes in a single rack with a minimum of four grid controllers and two FlashSystem 900s and scales up to 12 controllers and 6 FlashSystem 900s in increments of 1 grid controller and 1 FlashSystem 900.

The FlashSystem A9000 and A9000R include advanced features from the Spectrum Accelerate software, which was derived from the XIV. Additionally the grid controllers include deduplication and compression to increase the effective capacity. IBM only quotes the effective capacity of the system and provides capacity guarantees. The effective capacity quoted is at a ratio of 5.26:1 of real capacity

Competitive storage solutions include the EMC XtremIO, HP 3PAR 8450, IBM FlashSystem V9000, and Hitachi VSP family with FMDs. Additional information on these products is available in ESR to authorized subscribers.
