Pure Accelerate 2023
Pure Storage held their Pure Accelerate Conference June 12-15 in Las Vegas and introduced new capabilities, product updates, and other significant developments.
Takeaways from Pure Accelerate
FlashArray //X and //C models are now designated as R4 with an update to use the new Sapphire Rapids Intel processor. This gives FlashArray PCIe Gen4 internal busses and DDR5 memory. Pure said that the new models achieved an overall 40% performance increase. This is in line with what we have seen in our test lab with the new processors. The new FlashArray systems also include 100GigE and 64/256 Gb Fibre Channel interfaces as well as the DirectCompress accelerator for a 30% boost in inline compression. New models of //C were added to the portfolio as well.
Pure also introduced the FlashArray //E models to complement the FlashBlade//E released earlier. The //E models are for more economical storage, expanding the amount of capacity per node without increasing the controller (compute) element.
The new processors have more lanes for PCIe which Pure will be able to exploit with continued developments. This will result in greater performance gains in the future. DirectCompress adds to the performance gain with compression efficiency.
The Evergreen program with included controller upgrades with support contracts continues to deliver for customers – they get the performance boost as part of the upgrade without having to migrate data off devices. A big plus for customers and for Pure.
