As has been the case with other storage vendors, the Pure consumption model has evolved and expanded over the years. It now has three options: Evergreen//One (formerly Pure-as-aService), Evergreen//Forever (formerly Evergreen Gold) and Evergreen//Flex.
This product review focuses mainly on the Evergreen//One managed service program.
Evergreen Subscription Models
Here is how Pure’s three consumption-based storage services work:
Evergreen//One is a full opex service with the hardware and software owned and managed by Pure. Customers buy SLAs for block or file/object storage and performance characteristics, and Pure meets those SLAs through proactive monitoring and nondisruptive upgrades.
Evergreen//Forever is a full capex acquisition model that lets customers license hardware and software for a set term. Forever includes non-disruptive hardware and software upgrades over the life of the subscription. This option allows customers to buy storage once and use it indefinitely, with Pure handing nondisruptive upgrades for the life of the subscription. Upgrades are available for FlashArray and FlashBlade//S controllers, blades and storage capacity. Evergreen//Forever also includes an all-inclusive software subscription that gives customers access to up-to-date features. Evergreen//Forever includes Portworx CSI for FlashArray and FlashBlade for containerized applications. Each three-year Evergreen//Forever renewal entitles the customer to an upgrade to the latest generation controllers or blades. When customers purchase extra capacity, they can trade in old controllers or blades for higher-model versions. Pure Storage also replaces failed components with like or better components for Evergreen//Forever subscription holders.
