Evaluator Group Adds New Research Covering Backup-as-a-Service

Thursday, August 20th 2020

Due to increased interest and adoption among enterprises, Evaluator Group today announced a series of deliverables designed to help IT professionals evaluating Backup-as-a-Service (BUaaS) offerings. The Evaluator Group 2019 study “Trends in Enterprise Data Protection” had shown that 41% of large enterprises were using or planned to use BUaaS.

“In the last six months, we have seen an increase in hardening of the data center and review cycles of data protection and business continuity with the end user community. In our research, ‘Enterprise IT Responds to COVID-19,’ end users indicated they would invest more in public cloud services by a net score of 12.8 points, and in data protection technologies by a net score of +1 points. BUaaS is servicing these clients,” said Camberley Bates, Managing Partner and Analyst at Evaluator Group.

Backup-as-a-service is making sense for enterprises due in large part to its agility, simplicity and remote accessibility,” said Krista Macomber, Senior Analyst and lead author on the new research. “The problem is that the shift to ‘as-a-service’ requires a mind shift for enterprise IT. Additionally, there are a myriad of solutions with different terms and capabilities available on the market today. With our new research, we aim to help IT professionals better navigate the buying process.”

The initial release of research includes four free Technical insight reports. Three of the reports cover the fundamentals of what BUaaS is, key considerations that IT professionals should bear in mind when evaluating BUaaS offerings, and definitions for key cloud data protection terms. The fourth report provides a landscape of key products and providers.

Additionally, Evaluator Group assesses key BUaaS products through a Vendor Comparison Matrix. The solutions currently covered in this new research are:
